The man with the metal hip showed he is human after all as Andy Murray failed to follow up his stunningly successful week at Queen's in Eastbourne.

Murray lost 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round of the Nature Valley International doubles as he partnered Brazilian Marcelo Melo instead of Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.

The Scot and Melo showed little-to-no chemistry against top seeds Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal in a match that lasted 64 minutes on Tuesday night.

The next time we see 32-year-old Murray on court will be alongside Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert at Wimbledon, where he plans to practise this week.

First he will take 48 hours off to rest and recover after an exerting week in which he made his competitive comeback, won a title then lost.

It will be five months on Friday since Murray went under the knife in major hip surgery. Speaking after Tuesday's defeat, he said: 'I didn't expect to be in this position a few months ago.

'It's obviously disappointing when you lose but I could easily lose in the first round of doubles at Wimbledon. You can't expect to win every match in every tournament you play just now.'

Murray's serve was broken three times on Tuesday, while Melo butchered all kinds of shots.
