They may be two of the richest names in the world of sport, but taxpayers have still had to fork out millions to bring the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox to the London Stadium.

The US superpowers will play each other twice at West Ham United's home this weekend and the staggering bill to reconfigure the venue will come from the public purse — although stadium officials have insisted that they will eventually make a profit from the double-header.
