Rory McIlroy has joined the wide spread congratulations paid to Shane Lowry's Open win by sharing a throwback photo of when the duo were teenagers.

Lowry stormed to his very first major win on Sunday, cruising home by six shots at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

By contrast, McIlroy endured a miserable homecoming after missing the cut by just one shot on Friday.
