I had my own Granit Xhaka experience of being booed in 2002 when I was substituted during a 1-1 draw with Southampton at Anfield.

I'd hit a couple of corners short in front of the Kop and given the ball away but it was still gutting to hear my own fans react like that. 

But I didn't respond, unlike Xhaka, because I understood it was more disenchantment with the team than anything personal.
