Gareth Southgate has given two of his sidelined World Cup heroes fresh hope they could be in his plans for England's Euro 2020 rematch with Croatia.

Dele Alli and Kyle Walker, important members of the Three Lions team that reached the semi-finals in Russia last year, haven't been selected in Southgate's recent squads having struggled to be regulars at club level.

But the England manager is aware of Alli's improved form under Jose Mourinho, including two goals against Bournemouth on Saturday, while he has given assurances to Manchester City's Walker that he hasn't been forgotten despite right-back being the most competitive position in the England set-up.

'Jose has played him (Dele) as a No 10 and that's his best position,' said Southgate, speaking in Bucharest after England were given a favourable Euro 2020 draw in Group D alongside Croatia, the Czech Republic and the winners of Scotland's play-off section.

'He enjoys having the freedom to run on into the box, that has been very clear for a long time, so it's great he's back on the scoring trail.

'At the moment he is fighting to get into Tottenham's team and pleasing the manager there. If the consequence is they are in form for us, for sure that will be in the players' minds.

'With Kyle, he is right in that mix. Trent (Alexander-Arnold) is obviously playing well. We've got Kieran Trippier, I watched his game (on video) on the morning of the draw, Atletico Madrid against Juventus.

'Reece James is also coming through, pushing in that area of the pitch. So we have competition. But would be foolish to to rule Kyle out.'

Southgate also confirmed that England will be based at St George's Park for the duration of Euro 2020 despite past reservations from players that it can get dull.

England will play all three group games at Wembley, starting against Croatia on June 14, and also a semi-final and final if they get that far.

Former captain Gerrard described St George's as 'boring' and said it needed a golf course for something to do outside training.

However Southgate believes the excellent facilities and convenience at a 'home' tournament mean St Georges is ideal. To address the risk of his squad going stir crazy, the England manager will allow family visits during camp before the action begins, and possibly
