Cristiano Ronaldo is watching his lofty status within the world of football come crashing down around him, according to Italian media. 

The 34-year-old was conspicuous in his absence from the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, as his great rival Lionel Messi won his sixth title - taking him one ahead of the Portuguese. 

Instead, Ronaldo snubbed the ceremony to attend the Oscar del Calcio AIC, the Italian Football Awards dinner where he walked away with two separate awards.
