Graham Thorpe has urged England’s batsmen to take their lead from Joe Root after a series defeat in which the tourists managed only two individual centuries to New Zealand’s five.
Root made the highest of the lot – 226 in more than 10 and a half hours during the drawn second Test at Hamilton.
But Rory Burns’s second-innings 101, ended by a run-out, was England’s only other three-figure score across the two games.
