England cricket star Ben Stokes has reflected on a memorable year - but revealed he would trade in the team's glory for his father's health and well-being.

The 28-year-old, who was recently also awarded an OBE, had played a crucial role in England's World Cup victory in the summer, and created more invaluable memories with his heroic innings against Australia at Headingley.

But Stokes admitted that he would rather his father was back on his feet amid his recovery from a serious illness.

Ged Stokes recently left intensive care at a hospital in Johannesburg, having been admitted on December 23.

His son had missed training with England the following day to be with his father, and Stokes conceded that the year had been a mixture of extreme emotions.

'At the end of the most memorable of years I am finding it quite hard to sum up 2019 right now,' Stokes said in The Mirror.
