Serena Williams reaches US Open quarter-finals once again but only after she's given a scare by 15th seed Maria Sakkari at Flushing Meadows Serena Williams was challenged in her fourth round tie versus Maria Sakkari The number three seed took the first set 6-3 against her Greek opponent Sakkari improved in the second set which she took in a thrilling tiebreak Williams then took the third set 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals once again

Serena Williams staged another comeback last night to keep her dreams of a 24th Grand Slam title alive.

The 38 year-old American found herself in trouble at 0-2 in the decider against Greece's Maria Sakkari but again held firm to come back and win 6-3 6-7 6-3 to make the quarter finals.

Against the same opponent two weeks ago she lost a second set tiebreak and then the match, and had to try and erase the memory when the world number 22 levelled matters.
