Gerard Pique has sensationally admitted Barcelona have been regressing in recent seasons and that widespread changes at the club were 'necessary'.

The experienced defender, 33, was on target in the nervy Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev but his thoughts were on the state of the Nou Camp giants off the field after a summer of turmoil.

The departure of the club's board, along with the hiring of Ronald Koeman, has heralded a new dawn in Catalonia and Pique is hopeful Barcelona will be able to rescue their ailing fortunes.
