Everton are reportedly interested in signing Chris Smalling from Roma this summer, but Sportsmail understands the deal will not happen.
The 31-year-old, who signed permanently for the Serie A giants last summer from Manchester United and is just one year into a four-year deal, is not understood to be up for sale but faces an uncertain future following the appointment of his old boss Jose Mourinho.
According to corrieredellosport, Roma would be willing to sell Smalling if a replacement can be found and they can get close to the £18million figure they paid to sign him, with Everton one of his potential suitors.
