Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made their first appointment as owners of Wrexham, with former Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson announced as the club's new manager. 

The fifth tier side have been on the hunt for a suitable candidate to take the hot seat following Dean Keates' departure at the end of the season, with the Hollywood duo keen on seeing the club promoted as soon as possible.

Parkinson, 53, boasts the necessary experience in the lower tiers, with his experience having won promotion on three occasions putting him above as many as 60 candidates for the post.

Fellow Hollywood star McElhenney also joined Reynolds in the £2m investment

Parkinson is the club's first managerial appointment under new owners Ryan Reynolds (L) and Rob McElhenney (R)

The Englishman's last job was with League One outfit Sunderland, making his arrival a coup for the ambitious North Wales club. 

'The Club didn't need selling to me, it sold itself and I wanted to be part of the journey this Club is about to embark upon,' Parkinson said upon his unveiling.
