It took a while to get everyone on board but Spain is behind its football team going into tonight's semi-final. 

Some believe they can win Euro 2020, others think they have gone as far as they can and much further than they might have.

Spain players have said time and again since the start of the Euros that they love playing for Luis Enrique. 'I would advise journalists not to ask players about their current manager,' he joked on Monday. 

'They all want to be in the team. Ask them when coach is gone and you'll get the truth.'

He has the players on-side and ready to run through the proverbial brick walls for him. Everyone trusts his decision making too. 

When he picked his squad he put crosses next to the names of Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos, Nacho and Iago Aspas, and ticks next to the names of Cesar Azpilicueta, Aymeric Laporte, Pedri and Alvaro Morata, and so far his decisions have all come good. 

He's been a winner at club level and the hope is that he can now transform that to the Spain team.

Regaining the middle ground

Luis Enrique has changed his team for every game but he hasn't touched his midfield. 

He believes unconditionally in 18-year-old Pedri, the veteran Sergio Busquets and recent La Liga winner Koke. 

Spain have dominated possession more than any team and, despite Rafael van der Vaart suggesting they only knew how to play sideways, the pass and move game brought 10 goals in two games against Slovakia and Croatia and enough chances against the Swiss (albeit after they had been reduced to 10 men) to win two games. 

No one in the Euros has run more than Pedri and with the two older heads alongside him Spain hopes they can dominate midfield again and run the match from there.
