British Olympic gold medal hopeful Oliver Dustin set to escape sanctions that could have seen him miss the Games after a test showing 'small traces' of cocaine was understood to have been cross-contaminated By Mike Keegan For The Daily Mail Published: 23:16 BST, 14 July 2021 | Updated: 23:19 BST, 14 July 2021 Viewcomments A British runner – viewed as a serious contender for an Olympic medal – is set to escape a sanction that could have seen him miss the Games after a test which showed ‘small traces’ of cocaine was understood to have been found to have been cross-contaminated. Oliver Dustin, a 20-year-old 800m runner who broke Seb Coe’s British Under 23 record in Nice last month, was told he had returned an adverse analytical finding for traces of a cocaine metabolite in France. The Workington native subsequently secured his spot at the Olympics two weeks later at the British trials in Manchester. But he was left fearing for his place in Tokyo following the test result. A statement is expected to be released by the runner, who has not raced since the Manchester trials, on Thursday. UK Athletics declined to comment. Dustin, who attends the University of Birmingham, ran 1.43.82 in Nice which was temporarily the world’s fastest for the year. On Wednesday, Dustin’s agent, Stephen Hass, told The Times that it was ‘not factually correct at this point’ to call it a positive test.
