It was only a matter of time before a senior England player decided enough was enough — and it was no great surprise to hear that player was Ben Stokes.

But the lifestyle our leading cricketers have been asked to lead since the start of the pandemic has been incredibly tough, and it’s absolutely right that someone like Ben — who has a young family — has decided that he needs to look after his own wellbeing.
