Japan were denied a footballing medal in their home Olympics on Friday, with Mexico's clinical finishing clinching them the bronze in a 3-1 victory.
A late onslaught from the hosts couldn't undo the damage, as Japan missed chance after chance despite Kaoru Mitoma getting one back.
However, first-half strikes from Sebastian Cordova and Johan Vásquez, plus Alexis Vega's strike in the second period, secured the bronze for Mexico.
