Premier League and England stars Dean Henderson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have pledged $8,000 to a recovery fund for a talented British footballer who has been left in a critical condition following an unprovoked attack.
Danny Hodgson, 25, originally from Cumbria, was knocked to the ground from behind in an unprovoked attack at a Perth train station in Australia on Saturday night after making his way home from an end of season game.
He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with severe head injuries, where he underwent emergency surgery for bleeding to the brain and a brain fracture.
The personal trainer has since suffered severe brain haemorrhaging, which required more surgery and remains in an induced coma.
A fundraising campaign has since been launched for Mr. Hodgson , who is a former Carlisle United youth player, by friend Steven Burton and it has already gained traction among Premier League stars as well as Mr. Hodgson's former clubs and team-mates in Cumbria.
Manchester United goalkeeper Henderson is among those to have raised awareness, and has already donated $5,000, with Everton forward Calvert-Lewin also donating £3,000 to the fund which has already reached $75,000.

Lowe said that everyone at the club was 'devastated.

'The problem is getting them a seat on a plane. Danny has had a major operation and been put in an induced coma to help him recover. It's an awful situation for everyone involved.
'We are all devastated. He's a good player and a good lad. The Perth football community is tight-knitted and is very liked and has lots of friends at other clubs.'
The fund will also go towards supporting Mr. Hodgson and to assist his family in being able to get Perth.
