Trey Lance is currently dealing with a left knee strain that could keep him sidelined for the 49ers' Week 7 game against the Colts. Lance is considered questionable for the 49ers' next game, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Lance said that he does not know when he sustained the injury and that he did not experience any discomfort until he went to bed on Sunday night. He played the duration of Sunday's game, a 17-10 loss in Arizona against the NFC West rival Cardinals. In his first career start, the 49ers' rookie quarterback went 15 of 29 for 192 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 89 yards on 16 carries.

While Lance showed promise during the 49ers' first five games of the season, Shanahan told reporters that Jimmy Garoppolo will resume his role as starting quarterback when he returns from his right calf injury. Shanahan is optimistic that Garoppolo could be back for the 49ers' matchup with the Colts.

While Garoppolo is the more polished passer, Lance has impressed teammates with his mobility. Lance has also been lauded by teammates for his toughness, even if it does result in extra punishment by opposing defensive players.

"It was fun to watch," defensive end Nick Bosa said of Lance's first NFL start, via ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "He definitely runs the ball hard. He might need to learn how to slide. He might need to work on his juke move a little bit, too."
