Champion jockey Oisin Murphy has admitted he was involved in a drink-related fracas at a Newmarket pub last week.
The rider, who looks certain to be crowned champion jockey for a third time on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday afternoon, also said he needs to learn not to turn to alcohol when weighed down by the pressures of racing.
Murphy has been involved in a titanic and draining struggle with William Buick to be the season’s top jockey.

The Newmarket pub incident occurred on the night before the jockey failed a breathalyser test at Newmarket racecourse last Friday. He was stood down for the day and missed his rides.
It is the second time Murphy has failed a breathalyser test during his riding career.
On Friday night, Murphy, 26, said: ‘The bottom line is I’ve been honest with everyone. I allow the jockeys’ championship and riding poorly to affect my personality.
