The Indianapolis Colts have shaken up the roster following their Week 6 win over the Houston Texans, particularly at the quarterback position. On Tuesday, the club announced that the team has waived signal-caller Jacob Eason as they have activated rookie Sam Ehlinger from injured reserve.
Eason originally was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Washington. While the team did spend recent draft capital on him, the move isn't a total shock. Veteran Brett Hundley has been the established backup to Carson Wentz and the club did need to elevate Ehlinger this week or would have to go throughout the rest of the season without him as his 21-day window to be activated was about to expire.
Eason saw game action just once during his time with the Colts and it was back in Week 2 against the Rams. In that 27-24 loss, he played 7% of the offensive snaps and completed just two of his five pass attempts for 25 yards and an interception.
Along with waiving Eason and activating Ehlinger, the Colts placed receiver Parris Campbel on injured reserve. They also placed safety Jordan Lucas and corner Marvell Tell III on the practice squad injured list, and waived defensive tackle Chris Williams. Meanwhile, kicker Michael Badgley was elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
