Dak Prescott is dealing with a calf strain at the moment, and does not yet know if he will be able to play when the Dallas Cowboys travel to US Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings on "Sunday Night Football."

Prescott told reporters Thursday that he believes his status for the game will be determined Saturday. He said that if it were up to him, he would definitely be on the field for the game, but that the decision is not solely up to him as the team's medical staff will have input. He's been a limited participant in practices throughout this week, not yet working in the team drills portion of the team's sessions, instead only doing individual work.

Prescott suffered the initial injury on the final play of the Cowboys' overtime win against the New England Patriots in Week 6. He was seen wearing a walking boot following the game but he, Mike McCarthy, and both Jerry and Stephen Jones have consistently expressed optimism that he will be back on the field following the team's bye.

Prescott, however, is keeping an eye on the longer term as well. "I want to play just because I want to be out there and help my team. Obviously missing the time that I did last year was no fun. But knowing we're a contender and can grow, I can understand the big picture," Prescott said. "This is a journey. This is more than one game."

Latest Odds: Minnesota Vikings +1

The Cowboys fancy themselves a contender, and Prescott is keeping that in mind when it comes to his game-time status. If this coming Sunday's game was a playoff game, "It'd be no question, 100 percent no question," that he would play, Prescott said.
