However, Gerrard has now gone back on his word and left Rangers to join Aston Villa after the Premier League club parted ways with Dean Smith earlier this month. Chris Sutton took to Twitter to mock Steven Gerrard for leaving Rangers to join Aston Villa Rangers secured their first Europa League win after beating Brondby 2-0 in their Group A clash at Ibrox in October. As a result, Gerrard was in a positive mood during his post-match interview. The former Liverpool captain took the opportunity to reject claims he was planning to leave the club after being linked with the then-vacant role at Newcastle. When asked whether he would be interested in moving to St James' Park following Steve Bruce's sacking, Gerrard said: 'Do I look happy? Do I look settled? Don't ask me silly questions then.'
