Ray Parlour claims Mohamed Salah's 'brilliant' displays means the Liverpool star can 'demand what he wants' from a new contract as Reds look to make attacker their best-paid player ever Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been the standout player in the Premier League The Egyptian is the league's top scorer but has 19 months left on his contract Ray Parlour claims Salah can ask for and get whatever he wants from a new deal Salah is in talks with Liverpool about becoming their highest-earner of all time By Sam Blitz For Mailonline Published: 23:00 GMT, 19 November 2021 | Updated: 23:00 GMT, 19 November 2021 Viewcomments Ray Parlour claims Mohamed Salah 'does deserve' whatever financial package he is entitled to at Liverpool as contract negotiations continue to overshadow his stellar season. The Egyptian forward has been the standout player in the Premier League this season, leading the top-flight's scoring charts with ten and also the assist tally leaderboard with seven set-ups for Liverpools. But Salah currently has 19 months left on his current Anfield deal and has been linked with a move away from Merseyside over the past 12 months, even though reports have linked the Reds with a £500,000 a week contract offer for the attacker. Ray Parlour claims Mohamed Salah (right) deserves the best contract possible at Liverpool Salah has been the standout Premier League player but has 19 months left on his contract That package would make the 29-year-old the highest-paid player in Liverpool's history but former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes Salah is fully entitled to that salary given his recent performances. 'He's been unbelievable, frightening with how he's played this season, the goals he's scored,' Parlour told talkSPORT: 'He's done at the right time because now he can demand what he wants really with his new contract. 'I'm sure his representatives are saying to Liverpool "wait a minute, he deserves £400,000-a-week." If you're Liverpool owners, yeah he does deserve it because what he's done on that field has been absolutely brilliant.' Parlour believes Salah fully merits a contract of £400,000 a week or more after his displays Salah was recently named as the Premier League's Player of the Month for October after scoring a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over Manchester United, while the Egyptian also scored wondergoals against Manchester City and Watford. Cries for Liverpool to hand Salah a contract extension have also come from former Reds players, including Kop favourite Robbie Fowler. Speaking to the Mirror in October, Fowler said: 'In my opinion, there won't be one dissenting voice in the Liverpool dressing room over (Salah) being rewarded with a new contract that will make him the club's highest earner. Salah has the most goals and assists out of any other player in the top-flight this season 'Of course, there have been instances in dressing rooms in the past where some players have become upset over an individual earning more than the rest. 'But, in this instance, Liverpool must realise that Mo is now one of the best players in the world, whether they like it or not, and with everything that brings. Fellow Liverpool icon Graeme Souness, meanwhile, added last month that Jurgen Klopp's squad need to keep the forward for the remaining prime years of his career. Graeme Souness (above) claims Liverpool need to tie down Salah to the rest of his prime years 'I won't speculate on what he is asking for but Liverpool should give it to him,' he told Sky Sports. 'It is in their interests to pay him as much as they can afford and also for Salah to stay at the club where he has clearly had the best spell of his career.' Salah, meanwhile, has remained coy on his contract talks, claiming it is not down to him, but did reveal he has a personal desire to remain at Anfield for the rest of his career. 'If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career,' he said in October. 'But I can't say much about that — it's not in my hands. It depends on what the club want.'
