Sergio Aguero has told close he friends he will bring his glittering career to an end after suffering heart problems, according to reports.

The Barcelona striker was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia last month after being forced off with chest pains in their 1-1 draw against Alaves at the end of last month.

The Catalan giants ruled the 33-year-old Argentine out of action for the three months earlier this month as a period of rest once extensive medical tests had been carrried out.

But The Telegraph, as well as reports in Spain, claim Manchester City's all-time leading goalscorer is now set to hang up his boots, bringing a stunning career which has included five Premier League titles to a close.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero also claims a press conference has been scheduled to announce his retirement next week, though Barcelona have yet to make a formal announcement.

There have been conflicting statements since the shock reports in Spain first broke however.
