The Italian - while sitting as the last man back for the Blues - opted to try and bring down a breakaway aerial ball by United with his first touch... only to get it horribly wrong and play summer signing Jadon Sancho through on goal. Knowing what had happened, Jorginho immediately gave up on the ball, knowing that catching the counter-attacking speed of Sancho would be impossible - with the England youngster then slotting coolly past Edouard Mendy. Jorginho's horribly mistimed touch allowed Jadon Sancho to break away and score the opener Thomas Tuchel has defended his man and blamed the lights inside Stamford Bridge Speaking after the match however, Tuchel rushed to his man's defence and insisted Jorginho had simply been distracted by the Stamford Bridge floodlights. Tuchel said: 'He misjudged the situation and I think he was heavily disturbed from the lights. It happens. 'It takes a lot of courage and personality to not be affected during the match and to have the courage to take the penalty. I am very happy that he did it.' Pressed on Chelsea's overall performance, Tuchel added: 'I am absolutely happy with what the players put in. Jorginho did make some amends however by later equalising from the penalty spot 'We had so many high ball recoveries, so can we maybe create more chances from this superiority and ball wins? Yes, maybe. 'So the energy is right, the quality is right, and the result is the result. Today it wasn’t in our favour.' Chelsea's failure to turn the match around and find a winner now means the Premier League summit is even tighter than before. The Blues still top the pile after 13 matches played, with 30 points to their name. Manchester City sit in second with 29, while Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have 28 in 3rd following their convincing 4-0 win against Southampton.
