Chelsea SHOULDN'T recall Conor Gallagher from impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace claims Glen Johnson who believes the youngster is not 'quite ready' to return to the club Conor Gallagher has enjoyed a successful loan spell this season at Crystal Palace The 21-year-old has scored four goals and provided three assists so far this term Gallagher's performances saw him receive his first England cap in November Glen Johnson believes it would be too early for Gallagher to return to Chelsea By Kieran Lynch For Mailonline Published: 18:41 GMT, 30 November 2021 | Updated: 18:45 GMT, 30 November 2021 Viewcomments Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the club not to recall Conor Gallagher from his impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace. Gallagher has been in exceptional form this season which led to him receiving his first senior England cap against San Marino earlier this month. His form has led some to suggest that Chelsea should reconsider bringing the 21-year-old back to Stamford Bridge early from his loan. Some have suggested Chelsea should look to bring Conor Gallagher back from loan Johnson who made 71 appearances for the club believes Gallagher is not ready for a return. He told Betting Odds: 'I think what Conor's doing at the moment is impressive. He's learning his trade, he's getting game time, but I don't think he's quite ready for Chelsea, just yet. 'That's not to say he won't in the future. It's one of those, you don't want to hinder him by getting him back off loan for him to just sit on the bench or just miss out on the squad. The 21-year-old midfielder has been in scintillating form for Crystal Palace so far this season Ex-Chelsea and England full-back Glen Johnson (centre) has said it would be too soon for Gallagher to return 'Surely for him and the club it's better that he keeps playing on loan and developing as a player and then see how far he can take it before he comes back. 'I wouldn't want Chelsea to call him back now and pause that because it's also in their interest for him to develop and hopefully let him take a position or sell him for a fortune. 'So I'd like him to stay out on loan and let him keep doing what he's doing.' If Chelsea were to cut his loan short, he would face heavy competition in the midfield position with the likes of Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic at Stamford Bridge. Gallagher would face a lot of competition in midfield if he was to return to Chelsea early Gallagher's performances on loan have picked up the attention of Thomas Tuchel Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said about Gallagher: 'It's not hard to follow (his progress) because he is standing out every single match day. It's a pretty easy one to follow. 'Listen, Conor's heart is so, so big. He loves football and you can wake him up at four o'clock at night. He will start running, sprinting and collecting balls, winning duels. This is what he does and you can see he feels good, he has trust from the club and manager. 'Right now, it is the beginning of November. He is a full member of the Crystal Palace squad and it's good where he is. There is no need to change this. We are fully aware of it and are happy he feels so good and is a huge part of this club.'
