There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Ralf Rangnick's appointment at Manchester United, though former star Patrice Evra has admitted he's 'perplexed' by the reaction to the German.

Rangnick has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the current campaign before he then takes up a consultancy role for the following two seasons.

The 63-year-old is well known for his high intensity pressing style of play but Evra believes that is already in the club's DNA.

Ahead of United's clash with Arsenal, when asked to give his reaction to Rangnick's appointment he said on Amazon Prime: 'Perplexed.

'I think we're talking more about Rangnick than what the players are doing on the pitch because we sacked a manager but everyone seems so excited and "Rangnick is going to be a genius".

'He has my full support but let’s see. I want the players to give a response on the pitch because when a manager has been sacked the players have to take some responsibility. All the United fans are excited about Rangnick.'

Co-pundit Alan Shearer said he felt the German got the role because of his experience as he said the prior regime including previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were learning on the job.

He said: 'How is he (Rangnick) gonna get the best of that talent (players at United).

'That talent has been disjointed over past couple of months and it is a messy situation.

'There's a lot of people in this football club who have been learning on the job. Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer), Kieran McKenna, Michael Carrick, (Darren) Fletcher in terms of the director of football and it's a messy situation he is walking to.

'One of the reasons they're going for is huge experience. The German coaches have nothing but positive things to say about him but we're about to find how good he is.

'He's never managed a pool of talent to what he's talking into here in terms of the individuals.'
