Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has revealed himself as a Covid-sceptic in a controversial interview given to French TV on Thursday.

Evra, 40, said he believes that the coronavirus pandemic is 'political', 'creates fear' and suggested that American billionaire Bill Gates had a role in its emergence.

'We speak too much about this Covid,' Evra told BFM TV. 'Even if you have a car accident they're going to say died of Covid. For me, it is political. Because you want to manage people and govern, it creates fear. There you go.'

Evra added: 'For me, it's no coincidence this Covid... Bill Gates talked about it in a conference in 2013... I'm not someone who's going to say it was programmed, but there you go. COVID, me personally, it does not scare me.'
