Cristiano Ronaldo will have his £385,000 a week salary docked by 25 per cent next season should Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League, according to reports.

The Portuguese forward returned to Old Trafford this summer in a stunning £20million transfer from Juventus, but both he and the club are struggling for form with United currently sitting in seventh place.

Ralf Rangnick's Red Devils are two points behind fourth-placed West Ham with a game in hand, but top-four rivals Tottenham and Arsenal have played one match fewer than United in an intense four-way battle for Champions League football.
