Trainer Hugo Palmer said Mr McCann, who is owned by a syndicate comprising Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold plus former teammate Adam Lallana, will drop back to a mile and contest the German 2,000 Guineas later this month after failing to stay the 1m 2f distance of the Dee Stakes. Palmer said: 'He travelled well and had a shout for a moment but he was a non-stayer. He is in the German Guineas. That was always our insurance policy if he didn't stay and that is he route we will go.'
