NRL experts and fans were in agreement that Dylan Brown's return to five-eighth was crucial in Parramatta's stunning win over Penrith.

The Eels won 22-20 at BlueBet Stadium on Friday night, handing the reigning premiers their first loss of the season and stopping their winning run on home soil after 21 consecutive wins.

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur moved Brown to centre for the past two games as injuries forced his hand and selected his son Jake at five-eighth, a decision he was vehemently criticised for as the Eels were thrashed 35-4 by the Cowboys last week.

Brown, however, was back in familiar territory against the Panthers and showed exactly what Parramatta had been missing.

The 21-year-old scored Parramatta's fourth try and finished with 92 run metres over 12 runs, five tackle busts and 112 kick metres, while making 22 tackles with just one miss.

'Dylan Brown’s move back to six was instrumental,' Fox League analyst Corey Parker said at halftime, adding the New Zealander had looked 'outstanding' on his return to halfback.
