Gary Neville has claimed expectation will not be 'too high' for Erik ten Hag in his first season as Manchester United manager as he warned the Dutchman has a big challenge ahead of him to reach the level of the top clubs in the league.

Ten Hag was officially unveiled as United boss on Monday after signing a three-year contract, with the option of a fourth, to succeed interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The 52-year-old Dutchman has started his work at Old Trafford early as he bids to rebuild a team that finished with its lowest Premier League points tally and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, the former United defender turned pundit described the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte as 'animals of managers' and said it will be difficult for Ten Hag and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal to overhaul them next season.
