A series of text messages have been revealed that show current Melbourne Demons president and former club director Kate Roffey savaging players at the club, describing them as 'undisciplined', 'sloppy' and 'confused'.
The Herald Sun has released the text messages between Roffey and former president Glen Bartlett from 2020 that included barbs at players and the coaching staff in the months leading up to the 2021 premiership-winning season.

The Demons showed promise in 2020 but ultimately finished in ninth place, just outside of the AFL finals with nine wins and eight losses. The club would go on to win its first premiership in 57 years the following season.
However the late-season form slump in 2020 was heavily criticised by Roffey in her role as director. Messages were sent saying coaches were too soft and 'feathers need to be ruffled and … some of them probably plucked'. Players were labelled 'immature' and unable to cope with 'critical feedback'.
