MPs will be shown a breakdown of all the latest research on transgender participation in sport in what is a potentially significant intervention by Parliament.
The briefing note ‘focusing’ on scientific work is scheduled to be published next month after work on it accelerated in recent weeks, the Mail on Sunday can reveal.
It is being drawn up to ensure MPs are properly informed when proposing how other sporting bodies should draft their regulations on gender eligibility.
The row over transgender athletes and those with differences in sexual development (DSD) has grown increasingly toxic in recent weeks.
Emily Bridges, the British track cyclist, was blocked from making her debut as an elite female in March following an intervention by ruling body the UCI.
Bridges, who is now likely to miss out on qualification for the 2024 Olympics following a rule-change, reported that she was subject to threats of physical violence after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said women’s sport should be preserved for ‘biological’ females.
