Jones returned to Australia as adversary on Tuesday ahead of England's three-Test tour, which kicks off at Optus Stadium in Perth on July 2. And Jones, who lost to England while in charge of Australia in the 2003 Rugby World Cup final, enjoys a tight relationship with one of the Wallabies' lynchpins. Samu Kerevi has credited Eddie Jones with helping him develop his game 'He’s one of the top coaches in world rugby but he’s also a top bloke. I talked to him throughout the year and he sends me messages,' Kerevi told British newspaper The Telegraph. 'When you sit down with him, he’s got some great learnings for me as a football player. That’s what I love about him [...] he gives me pointers of where I can get better.' The 28-year-old first met Jones after signing for Suntory Goliath in Japan, where the current England coach served as assistant coach in 1997 and then as head coach between 2009 and 2012. While he was long gone by the time Kerevi moved to Japan in 2020, Jones continues to work for Suntory on a consultancy basis and speaks to the Wallabies centre 'throughout the year'. Jones and England take on Australia in Perth in the first of three Tests next weekend The Wallabies have lost their last eight Tests against England, with the most recent defeat coming in November last year when they were outclassed 32-15 at Twickenham (above) Kerevi, who won 36 caps for the Wallabies, sparked a minor controversy earlier in April when he remarked he was trying to coax some of England's secrets out of Jones by 'asking him a few questions on how they play and how his centres’ movements are.' He was forced to backtrack after Jones came under fire, particularly after last year All Blacks star Beauden Barrett revealed the Australian coach had disclosed 'little pieces of gold' when the two worked together in Japan. 'I went to him the next day and apologised,” Kerevi said. “He just laughed. [...] . I think it’s a storm in a teacup. It’s not like he’s giving away any England secrets. I said that in another interview and it blew up. He’s a really top man. Kerevi and Jones formed their strong relationship at Suntory Goliath, the Japanese club the Wallabies winger has played for since 2020 (above) Kerevi played against England as they demolished Australia 40-16 at the 2019 RWC (above) 'When he’s at Suntory, he wants the team and the organisation to get better. It’s nothing to do with the Wallabies or England. He’s just there to help those Japanese players and the foreigners.' Kerevi made his Wallabies debut in Brisbane in the opening Test of England's 2016 tour of Australia, which ended with the host whitewashed. Australia haven't beaten England since, but Jones' men arrived Down Under on the back of a disappointing Six Nations and following an embarrassing 52-21 thrashing against the Barbarians last weekend.
