SHOWBOATING SPANIARD STUNS HURKACZ
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina must be the most relieved man in Wimbledon. Leading 7-6, 6-4, 5-3 and serving at 40-0, the Spaniard attempted a tweener — a shot through his legs — against No 7 seed Hubert Hurkacz. It flew into the net.
Hurkacz fought back, taking the match to a fifth-set tie-break, but Davidovich Fokina didn’t showboat this time around and won, making Hurkacz the first big name to fall at SW19.
The Pole had pledged to donate €100 to the people of Ukraine for every ace he hit at Wimbledon. He managed 21 in defeat, so that’s €2,100 (£1,810) going to the war-torn country.
