sport news Collingwood Magpies AFL president's joke about Jordan De Goey could create ... trends now
The moment Magpies president Jeff Browne made light of Jordan De Goey's incident in New York, which landed him in jail, 'introduces the risk of ongoing unsafe work environments' for the club's AFLW players according to a gender diversity expert.
De Goey's antics in a New York bar in October last year led to the 26-year-old being charged with forcible touching of a 35-year-old woman and the assault of a 37-year-old man after being arrested.
He was temporarily stood down by Collingwood until the former charge was dropped. In January, the Pies reinstated him after he agreed to a plea bargain to downgrade the remaining assault charge to second-degree harassment.
Collingwood president Jeff Browne has been slammed for a joke about Jordan De Goey
At the Collingwood AFLW awards night on April 22, Browne made light of the incident during a speech.
'I hear some of you girls are going overseas tomorrow. I have a message for you from Jordan De Goey: 'Don't do anything I wouldn't do',' he said, according to the Herald Sun.
The comment went down like a lead balloon in the room, which was primarily full of females, with responses in the room ranging from anger to awkwardness.

Gender diversity expert Michelle Redfern, who has worked with AFL clubs Carlton, West Coast and Essendon and is the founder of Advancing Women in Business and Sport, was not impressed.
'If I was in the room I would say 'mate you are trying to identify and curry favour with the wrong people here and I would ask you to reconsider and rethink,' she told the Herald Sun.
'He (Brown) is focusing on the wrong thing, make light of the scoreboard or things like that, not violence against women from a player who clearly has issues regarding respect towards women.'
