Retired South Sydney premiership player Sam Burgess has recounted the time he turned an eye-watering fee to fight fellow NRL star Paul Gallen, saying he 'didn't need the million dollars'.
Burgess was appearing on his fellow Englishman James Graham's podcast to talk about his long and distinguished time on the field and made it clear boxing won't be something he contemplates as a career change.
The hulking 196cm forward played 182 games for the Rabbitohs, as well as a stint in rugby union that included five Tests for England.

Gallen, Darcy Lussick, Justin Hodges, Sonny-Bill Williams, Herb Narvo, Billy Johnstone and of course Anthony Mundine, are some of the many NRL players who have made a successful transition to boxing.
