Peter V'Landys left footy fans baffled after the footy supremo produced a bizarre statement amid the NRL's suburban stadium stoush with the NSW Government. 

The Australian Rugby League Commission chairman stated it is important kids 'get off those video machines' and instead attend live NRL games across Sydney to aid their mental health.

V'Landys believes that may not happen if suburban grounds such as Brookvale Oval, Leichhardt Oval and Shark Park are not upgraded to the tune of at least $250million.

He also appears to have softened his stance regarding the NRL shifting the grand final to Brisbane in October if the spend doesn't go ahead.

'Options will continue to be looked at, but we can't punish the people of NSW because of the integrity of the NSW Government,' he said on Nine's Today show on Thursday.

'They have had two very hard years. 'The last thing we want to do is punish them, punish the people of NSW because of the lack of integrity of the NSW government.'

V'Landys added the decision on where the NRL grand final will be staged is likely to be announced next week.

On Wednesday it was revealed the NRL is poised to take the NSW Government to court after Premier Dominic Perrottet backtracked from a pledge to revamp Sydney suburban footy stadiums.

The premier instead stated the funding will instead be allocated to NSW flood victims.

'The NSW government remains committed to upgrading suburban stadiums; however, following recent natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic, it is appropriate that further investment in stadia is staged,' Mr Perrottet said.
