Everyone likes to think they know their stuff when it comes to pre-season predictions. But how much confidence do we really have in what we think will happen? 

As part of BT Sport's 'Believe it? Now see it' campaign, Sportsmail put Joleon Lescott's predictions to the test ahead of the new campaign with the help of the broadcaster's new lead Premier League presenter Lynsey Hipgrave. 

The former Manchester City defender answered a series of our 'yes or no' questions, before a lie detector test revealed whether he truly believed what he was predicting.

Lescott: 'I always think that the team that won it the season before should be the favourites and with the signings they've made, it makes them stronger.' 

Do you think Liverpool will push City as close in the title race?

Lescott says: NO / Lie detector says: Telling the truth

Lescott: 'I think Mane is a huge miss for them. There were games where he just grabbed it by the horns and affected them. So I don't think it will be as close as people think.'

Do you think Manchester City will win the Champions League?

Lescott says: YES / Lie detector says: Telling a lie

Lescott: 'That was hope! I couldn't pick a team to win the Champions League, there's no favourites in that competition. Particularly after what happened last season.'

Will Erling Haaland outscore Harry Kane in the Premier League?

Lescott: 'I think Haaland will score more goals across the whole season in all competitions. But if Harry Kane is fit then he will play. Haaland will play if Pep feels its right.'
