Eli Manning is moving up to the owner's box after becoming the newest minority partner of the NWSL's Gotham FC, a New Jersey-based team marketed to fans on both sides of the Hudson Both Eli Manning and the team announced the anticipated news on Wednesday morning 'I have lived and worked in this community for almost two decades. It's home to me, and Gotham FC is my family's favorite soccer club,' Manning said in a statement. 'Combine that with the organization's strong leadership, talented roster, and sustained growth, and it became clear that joining this great group was a fantastic opportunity.' Formerly known as the Jersey Sky Blue and Sky Blue FC, Gotham FC was founded in 2006 in a league known as the WPS (Women's Professional Soccer), but later became an original member of the NWSL in 2013. The club has struggled in its brief history, but currently boasts US National Team star Kristie Mewis. The team plays in Harrison, New Jersey, outside of Newark and just a short drive from the Giants' home stadium and practice facility in East Rutherford. It was there that Manning played for the Giants throughout his 16-year NFL career. In addition to his two historic upsets of the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, Manning retired after the 2019 season with the team's all-time record for passing yards (57,023), touchdown passes (366) and completions (4,895).
