Barring a monumental backflip the saga, for all intents and purposes has reached its end. A preliminary approval was handed down for a $24million settlement between US Soccer and the USWNT by a federal judge Thursday. US Central District of California Judge Gary Klausner granted a motion to approve the terms, scheduling a hearing on December 5, wherein final approval is likely to occur. 'The unopposed settlement agreement accomplishes the plaintiffs' goal for litigation: equal pay,' Judge Klausner detailed in his order. 'The court is satisfied that the settlement is a fair and reasonable resolution.' Judge Klausner's decision looks to have virtually settled the long running dispute in US Soccer Molly Levinson, spokeswoman for the US women said they were 'pleased' with the initial decision suggesting it is only a small step in the fight for womankind. 'We are pleased that the court granted preliminary approval for the historic equal pay resolution today and we look forward to celebrating this hard-fought victory for women and girls at the final hearing in December,' 'Our work has only just begun, because there are too many workplaces in the world where women are valued and paid less than men for doing the same work. We won't stop fighting for what is fair, right and equal.' Only in February did the two parties agree to a $22m deal which would see the finances distributed among players depending on game time. As part of the terms, US Soccer declared it will provide equal pay for both its men's and women's teams for friendlies and tournaments, including the respective World Cups. The feud between the women's team and the governing body extends back to 2016 where five players -- Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe and Becky Sauerbrunn -- filed a federal wage discrimination complaint claiming they were paid four times less than their male counterparts.
