Aussie F1 star Daniel Ricciardo continues to hold his head high after being replaced at McLaren by compatriot Oscar Piastri.

After facing mounting speculation his seat on the grid was in the firing line, McLaren dumped the $20million veteran in favour of the 21-year-old rising star, with an F1 spot the logical next step after winning both the Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships.

Even though Ricciardo has not been at his best since signing for the English-based team, finishing in the top 10 in just three out of 15 races, his McLaren car has been beset by reliability and engine issues, and the team has consistently used head-scratching tactics.

After a disappointing 17th at the Dutch GP on Sunday night (AEST), Ricciardo revealed he'd caught up with his fellow Aussies Piastri and his manager Mark Webber to clear the air and make sure there are no lingering tensions.

'I've spoken to Oscar and just made sure that there's no bad feelings there,' he said after yet another disappointing finish.

'He's trying to get into Formula One. This moment should be really big for him.

'I don't want to make it a bad situation for him, and that's that. It's nothing personal. So that's all the conversation was. I truly do wish him well. I want him to have a good run in Formula One.'
