Penrith star Taylan May has admitted he 'regrets' attacking a man on the Sunshine Coast last year, but insisted his focus was now firmly football after the NRL hit him with a controversial suspension.

The 21-year-old was filmed throwing a man, who was allegedly harassing Penrith star Nathan Cleary, to the floor in a pub in Maroochydore.

CCTV footage showed May grabbing the man from behind and subsequently throwing him off his feet, before his teammates intervened.

Last week, the Penrith young gun was found guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm by Maroochydore Magistrates Court, but no conviction was recorded.

May was fined $1,000 by the court and ordered to pay a further $1,000 to the victim, while the NRL fined him $7,500 - with half of the amount suspended. 

The NRL banned May for two games for the incident, but controversially decided to defer the suspension until
