Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen insists that the Reds are still genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season despite their inconsistent start to the campaign. 

Jurgen Klopp's side pushed champions Manchester City all the way in 2021-22, only missing out on top spot by one point after a dramatic final day. 

However, after six games of the new season, they are already five points behind City and six behind early leaders Arsenal

But Owen believes that a 2-1 win over Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday night, courtesy of Joel Matip's 89th-minute goal, will give Liverpool a platform to build on.
