Potter called time on his three-year stint as Brighton boss last week to join Chelsea, who were left searching for a new head coach in the wake of Thomas Tuchel's sacking.
With his appointment coming a week after the transfer window's closure, the 47-year-old will not be able to bring in any of his own recruits until January - but Caicedo has already emerged as a potential option.
