Saul Canelo Alvarez has four children all by different women including his new-ish wife Fernanda, a ranch the size of an English county, a fleet of the world’s most expensive cars, mansions in Mexico and the USA, flourishing businesses, a super-yacht and, to paraphrase the old song, a diamond watch as big as the Ritz.

Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin has one son and one daughter by his wife and only love Alina, one home in California to which he moved from his native Kazakhstan via Germany and refuses to be distracted by the high life or drawn into commercial enterprises until he has finished knocking people out for a living.

Canelo numbers world leaders and Hollywood celebrities among his golfing partners and rides his stable of thoroughbred horses. Triple G enthuses about playing games with his young son after picking him up from school.

‘What do I want from this fight,’ says Alvarez rhetorically. ‘My goal is the knock-out. If not then to punish him through all the 12 rounds. For me this is personal as well as professional.’

And Golovkin? He says: ‘This time the perfect end would be to see the referee waving his arms over him and then raising my hand. My intention is to bring back clean boxing.’

To that subtle reference to Canelo’s failed drugs test which delayed their second fight, Mexico’s red-haired national idol responded thus: ‘Golovkin talks differently to the media than face to face. He is not the man he appears to be. I can’t help but hear what he says in public but I don’t listen with attention. He is only making excuses for losing to me, which he knows he did.’
