Willie Gay's four-game suspension over a misdemeanor arrest this summer has been described as 'making no sense' by NFL fans who were quick to express their anger at the league on social media.
The 24-year-old's ban comes seven months after his arrest on January 19 in Overland Park, Kansas, on a charge of criminal damage of less than $1,000.
A police report obtained by DailyMail.com shows that along with a vacuum cleaner, Gay is also allegedly damaged a wall, humidifier and cell phone screen protector in an argument with his son's mother.
The linebacker had settled the case in court back in June, according to TMZ Sports, entering into a diversion program as means of avoiding a trial. A representative for Gay told TMZ that he was visiting his son when the argument broke out, and insisted that the altercation did not turn physical.
His punishment was labeled as 'garbage' by several Twitter users while others decided to draw comparisons with the case of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The 27-year-old was given an 11-game suspension and a $5million fine by the NFL over several sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced during his time with the Houston Texans.

'So Willie Gay Jr. gets 4 games for harming literally no one except a damn vacuum but Deshaun Watson gets only 7 more games... These punishments make no sense,' another Twitter user shared Monday evening.

Another added: 'I'm confused about the precedent that leads to, as far as we know, misdemeanor property damage equaling four games. Willie Gay just got 36 percent of the Deshaun Watson suspension.'
