Steven Gerrard's first duel with Graham Potter ended with a win that gave his Aston Villa reign instant lift-off.
Nearly a year on from that successful debut, Gerrard badly needs to get the better of Potter again to stop a downward spiral that has put the former Liverpool and England captain under huge pressure.
It might seem absurd for a manager to be feeling the heat after a four-match unbeaten run. Yet Villa fans seem to have made up their minds that Gerrard is not the man for them and their response will be fierce if their team fail to deliver against Potter’s Chelsea side on Sunday.
