Darren Wilson, who was also finance director at the trade union, can no longer sit as a trustee in what is a significant move by The Charity Commission. It is understood Wilson has appealed the disqualification, which is one of the most stringent sanctions that the Commission has at its disposal. Its usage puts a huge black mark against the operations within the PFA Charity, which is now known as the Players’ Foundation. Wilson, a former Manchester City and Bury player, oversaw financial dealings at the PFA under ex-chief executive Taylor, who was on around £2million a year. He left the union earlier this year. Details of a severance package were not announced. Ex-PFA director Darren Wilson has been disqualified as a trustee by the Charity Commission In 2020 it emerged Wilson was paid £345,516 in salary, bonuses and pension contributions. That staggering figure raised eyebrows across football given it was more than four times the average for someone carrying out the same role at an EFL club and close to 10 times more than the average for a finance director at a League Two club. Wilson had been with the PFA for close to two decades. He was one of four PFA Charity executives who launched legal action against the Charity Commission which was subsequently thrown out by a High Court judge. Its statutory inquiry, triggered by revelations published in this newspaper, is ongoing. A Charity Commission spokesperson said: ‘As part of our inquiry into the Players Foundation (formerly the PFA Charity) we made the decision to firstly suspend and subsequently disqualify Mr Darren Wilson from being a trustee. Mr Wilson is now appealing these decisions in a tribunal.’ Share or comment on this article: All rights reserved for this news site (dailymail) and under his responsibility
